Doha, Qatar - May 31, 2022: Qatar National Library continues to offer its members exciting learning opportunities this summer. June will be filled with a wide spectrum of topics including critical thinking, sustainability, and technology.
On 5 June, Earthna, Center for a Sustainable Future, in collaboration with Qatar National Library, invites members to the first in a series of events on the terrestrial ecology of Qatar. The event will include the launch of Hidden Beauty, a book by Dr. Renee Richer, and a panel discussion on “Conservation and Restorative Policies for the Terrestrial Ecology of Qatar and other Hot Arid Lands.”
On 6 June, the Library invites new members to an introductory session about Library membership. Participants will learn about the Library’s borrowing policies, how to use the self-borrowing stations and how to find books and other resources in the Library’s collections.
The Library will host its second community read and virtual book discussion on the novel, Celestial Bodies, by Omani author, Jokha Alharthi on 7 June. Alharthi’s novel is a story that sheds light on the social and economic transformations of life in Oman after the discovery of oil, and how these changes were reflected in the lives of three sisters who take the leading role in this novel.
On 8 June, the Library will host a webinar that will tackle the subject of copyright and licensing for resource sharing. The webinar comes as part of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions “Interlending and Document Supply” conference, which the Library is hosting from 20 – 22 September 2022.
On 9 June, the Library will host an online session for parents and caregivers to discuss different types of child sensory difficulties and the difference between behavioral challenges and sensory challenges. The session will be presented by Bassam Adel Hamad, Occupational Therapist at Qatar Foundation Learning Center.
Join the Library on the 12 June for a session to discover main business databases and to learn how to use the Library’s various online resources for business and economics, including ebooks, audiobooks, key business academic e-journals, popular magazines, dissertations, statistics and reports, and other important templates and tools.
In cooperation with the Theater Affairs Center, the Library will offer theatrical sessions for children aged seven to 12. The sessions will be held from 12 June until 29 June and will run on Sundays and Wednesdays. The closing play will be performed by the children on July 7.
On 14 June, the Library will host a workshop to teach participants how action research is a powerful system that can be used to evaluate their practice, their professional decisions, their program goals and their ideas. The workshop will especially focus on using existing empirical research to craft action research investigations.
In addition, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing at the Library, ‘Electro Maqam,’ an entertaining journey where Arabic music magic meets the electronic world.
The Library will host an online session on 21 June for participants to learn how to access popular magazines, newspapers and comic books from around the globe using their library membership. The session will highlight the main databases, including PressReader, Libby and The New York Times.
On 24 June, the Library will offer a workshop for members to learn about gaining self-confidence, building self-esteem and how to get rid of their fears. The workshop will be presented by Hessa Al-Mohannadi, a self-development coach.
The Library will continue to host a variety of fun and engaging events online throughout June 2022. As the Library will host several in-person events, members are reminded to adhere to the latest COVID-19 guidelines set by the Ministry of Public Health to ensure the well-being and safety of the community.
