Hand Building Clay at Heenat Salma Farm - Qatar

Students of this introductory workshop will learn all the processes of working with clay, from its extraction, modeling, drying, and burning, as well as the social and economic importance of its production in our local communities.

Demonstrations of techniques for building pottery by hand include slab construction, coil building, pinching, and extrusion. Applied textures, colored slips, and glaze application for surface decoration techniques will also be demonstrated.

Through observation and practice, students will:

• Learn to create a mug or pot by hand.
• Take part in an introductory session on hand-building techniques.
• Finish at least one ceramic work, which will be fired and can be collected from Heenat Salma farm after 7-10 days.

• Admission: 8 y/o and above

Participants will be encouraged to explore these various hand-building and surface techniques in order to create their own unique, functional work.
