A strong show of Richard Strauss by the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra on the stage takes place once again under the directorship of Elias Grandy. This specially prepared programme is an insight into the drama, colour and emotional impact that characterize the best pieces, the orchestral works of Strauss, and a night of musical story telling at its best.

Don Quixote: A Hero Brought to Life 

The concert starts with the romantic symphonic tone poem by Strauss, which is based on the legendary novel of Cervantes titled Don Quixote. Daniel Muller-Schott, internationally acclaimed cellist, plays the role of Don Quixote and the principal violist of QPO, Giovanni Pasini plays the role of Sancho Panza.

Strauss renders the comic adventures of the knight, marvellous idealism and moving helplessness through the use of colourful orchestration and expressive passages of solo playing. Stereotyped by the mocking shifts, the orchestra makes this classical story live through the splendor of the screen.

Passion and Romance After the Interval 

It is then after the intermission that the energy is fed with the Don Juan, a work full of excitement with the thrill, drama, depth of tragedy. The programme finishes with the lavish Suite in Der Rosenkavalier, which is famous with its high waltzes and rich orchestral sounds. The suite is gorgeous and sparkling and brings out an elegant end to the evening.

Attendance Guidelines

Purchasing of all tickets is to be made online. The seats will start 30 minutes prior to the performance and children less than six years of age are not allowed. Visitors are asked to turn off mobile phones and avoid taking pictures or videos. The latecomers will be seated during appropriate breaks. The dress code is smart casual, and over casual dresses will not be allowed, i.e. shorts or beach wear.
