On the evening of 9 June 2026 at 7:30 PM in the Opera House in Katara Cultural Village, enjoy an evening of rich orchestral colour and sweeping Nordic drama. Led by Elias Grandy, the Qatar Philharmonic orchestra is accompanied by Concertmaster Lionel Schmit and renowned pianist Sonja Park in a programme that shifts between the impressionistic mood to the rhythmic splendor and the film-legend.

The dreamy and sensual masterpiece, which opens the concert, is the Prélude a la Après-midi d un faune by Debussy, with its textures and harmonious hues of orchestra. The next piece by Ravel is the Piano Concerto in G Major, which sets Sonja Park in the center, as she plays dazzling jazz-colored rhythms, sharp wit, and a lyrical slow movement which runs unpredictably and hauntingly in a state of sheer elegance.

Following the break, the Lemminkainen Suite of Sibelius presents four melodramatic tone poems, based on Finnish mythology. Dark, mysterious, and expressive in a powerful way, the suite features some of the most memorable orchestral writing done by the composer ending with a performance full of tension, beauty and grandeur.

Admission: Must be 6 years old or more. Children below 6 cannot be allowed.

Concert Guidelines

The purchase of all tickets should be done online. Refund, or exchange, is not allowed. Sitting starts 30 minutes prior to the performance. Delays will not be allowed unless in a suitable break. Phones should be turned off and flash photography or videotaping are highly forbidden. The re-entry is restricted to the seats in the vicinity of the exit. One must not bring food or drinks into the concert hall (except water).

Dress Code: Smart casual. Bikinis and shorts are forbidden.
