Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Qatar jumped by 518 to 6,533 on Tuesday as 59 more people recovered in the last 24 hours to raise the total to 614, according to the Ministry of Public Health. No new death linked to the virus was reported on Tuesday, leaving the toll at nine.

More than 2,000 COVID-19 diagnostic tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of examinations carried out so far to 66,725.

As many as 5,910 people are currently undergoing treatment for the virus infection in Qatar.

On its website, the ministry attributed the recent surge in daily COVID-19 cases to several reasons, including the transmission approaching a peak in Qatar. This means, the daily cases continue to rise for a period before it begins to decline, the ministry said.

Besides, aggressive efforts to trace transmission chains and increased surveillance have contributed to the early detection of COVID-19 cases, it added.
