Ooredoo Group today announced an expanded collaboration with Google Cloud, adopting the APIGEE API Management platform to scale its API ecosystem, accelerate service delivery, and create new revenue models across its markets.
Harnessing the Power of APIs through GSMA Open Gateway
Through the expanded collaboration, Ooredoo enables developers and enterprise customers to access telco network capabilities as APIs - such as Silent Number Verification, SIM Swap, and direct carrier billing - via the GSMA Open Gateway framework. This global initiative transforms traditionally siloed telecom networks into open, programmable platforms, empowering third parties to build richer digital services across industries such as banking, fintech, e-commerce, travel, and smart mobility.
The collaboration will allow Ooredoo to monetise APIs directly, enhance cross-market interoperability, and support a faster, more secure way to integrate with its networks. It also provides developers with scalable tools to create customer-facing applications that are more responsive, personalised, and efficient.
Timos Tsokanis, Group Chief Technology and Information Officer, Ooredoo, said: “We are building digital platforms that drive real value for developers, for our enterprise customers, and for the communities we serve. Our expanded partnership with Google Cloud strengthens our ability to offer API-powered services at scale, accelerating innovation, and creating new commercial opportunities across our markets.”
Recognised for API Excellence
The announcement was made during the Google Cloud Summit Doha held recently to mark the second anniversary of Google Cloud’s operations in Qatar.
During the event, Google Cloud presented Ooredoo Group with an award recognising the success of their APIGEE collaboration and the Group’s outstanding API achievements powered by Google Cloud technologies.
The APIGEE platform was successfully deployed across multiple Ooredoo markets in record time, leveraging a variety of deployment models tailored to local needs - reflecting strong execution, tight collaboration, and the Group’s commitment to delivering innovation at scale.
Scaling the Cloud for SMEs
In parallel, Ooredoo is scaling its cloud business with a dedicated marketplace for Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs), set to run on Google Cloud. The marketplace will soon offer digital tools and cloud-native services tailored to the needs of modern enterprises - helping them build, grow, and scale efficiently and reliably in the digital economy.
The collaboration also ensures that Ooredoo continues to benefit from Google Cloud’s best-in-class infrastructure, AI, and data analytics capabilities - supporting the Group’s ambition to lead in digital infrastructure and operational excellence across its footprint.
