Doha, Qatar - June 14, 2022: Qatar Business Incubation Center (QBIC), the largest development business incubator in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and a Qatar Development Bank (QDB) affiliate, has concluded its Demo Day for 2022. Themed ‘The Next Smart Investment Move is Yours’, the successful event was presented by QNB as the Strategic Sponsor, Ooredoo and Qatar Financial Center as the Incubation Partners, Invest Qatar as the Ecosystem Partner and Microsoft as the Technology Partner.

Demo Day 2022 gave a platform to 12 startups operating in various fields and sectors to pitch their business ideas in the presence of angel investors, experts, and other key contributors to the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Qatar.

At the outset of the event, Mr. Abdulrahman Hesham Al Sowaidi, Acting CEO of QDB, welcomed the partners, participants, and attendees while also praising the organizers’ efforts in bringing everyone together. During his opening remarks, Mr. Al Sowaidi highlighted the importance of Demo Day to the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Qatar, as it gives many innovative projects a greater opportunity for growth and development.

The event included a panel discussion entitled ‘From Risk to Opportunity: Shaping the Angel Investor Mindset’, in which experts discussed their thoughts and shed light on the possibility of transforming investment challenges into opportunities for business growth. The speakers also addressed a range of topics that highlighted success stories in this regard, in addition to tackling startups’ chances to obtain financing in the early stages, and their role in making the journey more successful for angel investors.

The participating startups showcased their business ideas before the angel investors, experts, and aspiring entrepreneurs. The list of companies that qualified and presented their projects included: Ariva, Cleveric Solutions, Cybergy Tech, Halalys, OBI Coach, KOKOLOCO, Tashyeed, eHaris, Vastry, Bayyena, Ticke Talks, and BuildHop.

Commenting on the conclusion of Demo Day, Mr. Ibrahim Abdulaziz Al Mannai, Executive Director of Advisory & Incubation, QDB, said: “The event has become a distinguished platform for entrepreneurship in Qatar. It comprises a leading-edge opportunity for both startups and angel investors, as the event breaks ground for future cooperation and fruitful partnerships between them. Demo Day forms part of a development initiative that serves QDB’s strategy, aimed at supporting startups and SMEs, and also pours into achieving the objectives of our national vision of attaining the sought-after prosperity and economic diversification for the private sector.”

Demo Day presented the participating startups with a chance to network and hold one-on-one meetings with potential angel investors, in an attempt to expand their cooperative relations that will enhance the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Qatar. Towards the end of the event QBIC celebrated the participating partners and honored them with awards for contributing to the success to the event.
