Doha, Qatar - 14 June 2022 : His Excellency Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, Minister of State, Qatar, and President of Qatar National Library, welcomed His Excellency Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of Armenia and the accompanying delegation to discuss future collaborations and cultural exchanges. His Excellency Dr. Hamad also announced the opening of the ‘Arabic Messages from Armenia’ exhibition which showcases a snapshot of Arab-Armenian historical, political, cultural and economic relations over centuries.
The exhibition presents reproductions of pages from Qur’anic manuscripts, as well as other Arabic manuscripts, in addition to replicas of coins from different periods in the history of the Islamic Caliphate. The items, in their original form, are kept in the Armenian Matenadaran - a museum and repository of manuscripts; and the History Museum of Armenia which houses the original coins. The artefacts present an exclusive treasure of utmost cultural and historical value for not only Armenian historians but also for Arab countries and heritage for the whole world.
Commenting on the occasion, His Excellency Dr. Hamad said: “We are delighted to welcome the Prime Minister of Armenia and his delegation to Qatar National Library and we are honored to have the reproductions of these incredible manuscripts and artefacts to exhibit at the Library.”
“The exhibition will provide an opportunity for the community to learn more about the connection between Armenia and the Arab region, and to see the documented Arab-Armenian historical and cultural interactions,” he added.
The ‘Arabic Messages from Armenia’ exhibition will be open to the public from 14 to 21 June 2022 during Qatar National Library’s opening hours.
