Six-day online event connects more than 500 prospective students with HBKU colleges

Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has been holding its annual Graduate Studies Open House between November 22 and 30. The university’s largest student recruitment event provided key information regarding the 2020-2021 academic programs, within an interactive virtual environment.

More than 500 prospective students were able to benefit from this year’s sessions, spanning all of HBKU's 33 multidisciplinary graduate programs across its six colleges.

The Graduate Studies Open House was directed at potential students who had identified a program of interest and would gain from knowing more about course content, study options and campus life. In keeping with previous years, faculty, members from admissions and students affairs, and current students were on hand to field questions and offer their perspectives on working and studying with HBKU. Participants also had the opportunity to discuss strategies for developing stronger applications and hear from college deans as to why the university is such a unique place to study.

As a result of COVID-19, this year’s Graduate Studies Open House was moved online with participants attending sessions via the HBKU website, social media and mobile devices. HBKU was also able to diversify the type of information offered to prospective students, including livestreams, pre-recorded sessions and downloadable materials. Each college hosted their session on a different day, consisting of a live welcome and discussion with deans and faculty members followed by insights and advice presented to the attendees.

Representatives from HBKU’s Enrollment’s Office and Student Affairs were available to answer questions on admissions and application criteria, including availability and eligibility, and students' engagement and campus life. Testimonials from past and existing students were presented to interested applicants.

The adjustments to this year’s Graduate Studies Open House enabled HBKU to reach an even greater number of prospective students at home and abroad, meaning that this was the first Open House to transcend physical boundaries.
