QIB Receives 6 Prestigious Awards at The Digital Banker’s Middle East & Africa Retail Banking Innovation Awards 2021

Doha, Qatar – 31 October 2021: Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) is pleased to announce its recognition with six prestigious awards at The Digital Banker’s Middle East & North Africa Retail and Banking Innovation Awards 2021. QIB was awarded ‘Best Digital Bank in Qatar’ and ‘Best Retail Bank in Qatar’ and Mr. Bassel Gamal was named ‘CEO of the Year in Qatar’. At the regional level, QIB received another three awards: ‘Best Mobile Banking’, ‘Best Digital Account Opening’, ‘Excellence in Digital Innovation’ in the Middle East.

The Middle East & Arica Retail Banking Innovation Awards program recognizes and celebrates the region’s preeminent consumer banking institutions that are championing innovation and contributing to the industry while demonstrating strong financial performance and business growth. The awards are globally acclaimed and co-judged by leading consultancies and seminal subject matter experts internationally, who review submissions and name winners against a stringent set of awards criteria.

QIB is the first Bank in Qatar to introduce a complete Digital Onboarding solution on its Mobile App, allowing prospective customers to start a relationship with the Bank by opening a savings or current account within minutes. QIB is the first Islamic bank in the world to introduce instant finance through the app allowing pre-approved customers to get personal financing in a few clicks. 

Last year, QIB launched the ‘Instant Credit Card’. The innovative service, a first-of-its-kind in Qatar, offers pre-approved QIB customers the opportunity to instantly apply, get approval and receive a credit card tailored to their specific needs, all through the mobile app.

QIB demonstrated its commitment to digital innovation over the past year with the introduction of the digital only Domestic Workers Account and the launch of Peer-to-Peer payments through its digital wallet. Furthermore, the bank launched the first AI-enabled Chatbot in Qatar, which familiarizes the public with the Bank’s products and services as well as enables existing customers to place banking requests and to perform basic banking transactions.  

QIB has excelled in upgrading its digital banking channels, namely the QIB Mobile App with more than 100+ features and services. Committed to digitizing the everyday banking experience for its customers, QIB reimagined the customer journey and introduced new features to its award-winning Mobile App putting the customer in control. From renovating the architecture to wireframe to UI design, the QIB Mobile App was relaunched with a totally new look and feel giving customers more control of their banking needs.

As part of its continued efforts to allow customers to be in full control of all their banking and financial needs, QIB launched The Group’s new trading and brokerage services on its Mobile App. Available under “Brokerage”, customers can now connect their QIB bank accounts with The Group’s accounts and trade instantly on any stocks listed on the Qatar Stock Exchange.
